November 16th Challenge!
Yes, we’re 2 days late, so I’ll just get straight to it! Here’s the challenge…
- Dust off those eyelet setters! Yep, we want to see what you can do with those eyelets you all bought and never used! If you honestly don’t have any, then you can substitute them with brads.
- Your title should include a number
- Complete your journaling in a ‘list’ style
Remember, you don’t have to use all 3 parts of the challenge, but we’d love it if you did!
Here’s some inspiration from the DT to get those creative juices flowing:
Special Guest Shimelle Laine
You know, I had a collection of thousands of eyelets in every colour and shape for years and I think I used about twelve, ever. And never creatively – usually just in a tag or a closure! Eventually I decided they were a waste of space and I sent them to live with a friend who would actually use them! And then about a month later, I discovered the Cropodile and…had to go out and buy some eyelets. I can’t say I use them all that often, but it’s more than before since this page has nearly as many as I used to use in a year! I like how they can emphasise the circle shapes of other elements on the layouts, like scalloped edges and the circle of gems around the title. Speaking of the title…I still can’t believe I did that 4U thing. It makes all my English teacher genes recoil. I can’t say it is my favourite thing ever, but sometimes it’s good to just take the challenge and run with it. I stretched the journaling rule a little — it’s not actually a plain list, but a series of exchanges in conversation, written on two journaling papers meant for lists…so I’m nearly there anyway!

Seeing as I was already having to dust off my eyelets and crop-o-dile I thought I may as well dust off my Bigshot! I used scraps of kraft cardstock to die cut the tage and attached them with eyelets to my page. I used scraps of papers and some twill to make a string of bunting across the page to add to the feeling of fun I was trying to create. I also borrowed the idea from Diana’s challenge at the weekend and made my title using left over letter stickers, and also used up some of those other stickers on the sheet to make a little funny face!
My journaling is a list of some of my son’s most noticeable personality traits at the moment.

This challenge sent me on a hunt through some very dusty boxes in
search of eyelets. I have so many sitting in my stash! These came
with my crop-a-dile, which until now had only been used for punching
chipboard, making mini-books and once, accidentally, a hole in my
husband’s best black belt (I thought it was mine and I’d lost loads of
weight). You can pretty much imagine how thrilled he was.
I used the number of eyelets to reflect the ten sayings on the layout
and to draw your eye to her big brown eyes in the photo. I don’t have
a big bite, so I measured out the holes at half inch intervals and
punched the strip before I stuck it down. To make the eyelets stand
out further, I placed a strip of white paper behind them, before
sticking the whole thing to my layout. I was really pleased with how
they turned out!
I did my journaling on the computer using a font I made of my own
handwriting and cut it into strips to make the list. Last of all came
the title, to make it stand out a little more, I backed the ‘gaps’ in
the letters and numbers with a patterned paper. I have a similar
layout for my eldest daughter and I’m so pleased I recorded those
things she was saying at 2, because when I look back, it gives me such
a giggle!

My layout started with some left over scraps of paper from Little Yellow Bicycle . . .some random other scraps of paper . . . a journaling sticker . . . a stamp . . . .some thickers . . . some floss . . . and of course . . . some brads (I couldn’t find the “right” eyelets!). I love this Halloween picture of my Halloween witches . . . I knew what title I was going to incorporate and then I just went to town. I started with a kraft sheet of paper, then I diamond background. Then I distressed the edge with my scissors and adhered it to the paper. I matted my photo on a sheet of dotted paper and distressed the edges of that. Then I went scouring through my scraps to find a cool green scrap that could be used as my title background. I drew out the number 2 and cut it out. Then I distressed the edge of the green scrap and adhered it to the page. I added the thickers to the top and bottom of my layout and then made a couple of labels. Next, I used the journaling sticker and did my journaling in a list form . . . this was soo easy!! After adhered that to the background, I went to town handcutting embellishments .. . the pumpkins, ghost, cat, and bat . . . each one of them is popped up using pop dots. The final touch was the florish which I embossed using my favorite Zinger embossing powder! To tie everything together, I added the groupings of 3 brads. My last step was adding the embossing thread to BOO!
Thanks . . . have fun with this wonderful challenge!!

I was thrilled to find out that we had to use eyelets because I have tons I keep staring at and wanted to find a chance to use them! I scrapped about the current changes in my life that start from turning redhead to moving houses!

Now I remember why I put those eyelets away! This was the hardest part of this challenge. I had to remember how to use the eyelet setting on the Crop-a-dile and even had to break out the hammer. Hubby even came over to see what I was doing. “Haven’t heard that thing in a long time.”
My top 10 has my top 10 list on a pull out journaling card. I thought it would be fun to look back at my list in a year or so. Another layout for my Book of Me.

I love making LO’s with lists. A great way to journal. Easy to read and easy to write. This is something I’ve started doing these past couple of years, just noting a few likes and dislikes before a new birth year is about to begin. It’s lovely looking back on these.
